"Atypical." Yes, Pneu is atypical because their style is more (watch out) noisy experimental free jazz math rock. Hailing from Tours, the duo of JB (on drums and screams) and Jay (on guitar) are two peerless musicians. They have occasionally shared the stage with Marvin, Electric Electric, and Papier Tigre (which resulted in a split release), as well as Pay Day and Charogne Stone. They also collaborated with Kathoon, Norman Bambi, and O.Lamm for a two-week residency, culminating in an exceptional cine-concert; all organized by Travaux Publics, the label that notably produced the first Boogers album.
In 2008, they released Pince Monseigneur on Head Records in both vinyl and CD formats—an album packed with mathematical formulas, notes, and short yet devastating songs. Furthermore, their sound is unmistakable: Jay uses massive Marshall and ENGL stacks with very few effects, while Jean-Baptiste plays a fairly simple, beat-up drum kit with cracked cymbals and no small or medium toms (and he generally performs barefoot on stage).
