Echo Woods is a musical ensemble founded by jazz guitarist Matteo Di Leonardo.
At the heart of Echo Woods lies the fusion of modern jazz with contemporary
experimentation. The band stands out for its unconventional instrumentation, blending the
warmth and versatility of a classic trio—electric guitar, double bass, and drums—with an
unusual wind section composed of bass clarinet, saxophones, bassoon, and the sheng, a
traditional Chinese wind instrument. This combination creates a soundscape rich in
contrasts and nuances. Di Leonardo's compositions are a mix of sharp melodies and soft
harmonic textures, where the instruments converse and intertwine, resulting in an
immersive and innovative listening experience.
Echo Woods aims to take the listener on an immersive musical journey, where the dialogue
between instruments creates a constantly evolving sound space.
They’ve released their first album in March 2025 under the Belgian label “Hans Kusters music”.
