À propos
Music on a Whim and Collectif Mental proudly present a riotous evening of ritualistic dub, drone, stoner rock and minimalist krautrock. We are back once again at WineBunker, the fantastic new space at Tours & Taxis:
NZE NZE (electronic/dub/noise - FR) - Teenage Menopause Records
Possessed rhythms and guttural voice. A dialogue through the belly, the guts, the breath drawn from the depths of being and its abysses. A magnetic music, seat, spirits, dreams, terrors, instincts. The reflection of an afro-unbridled futurism that puts the foot on the accelerator of brazen sounds.
NZE NZE was born in 2021 following a residency at Red Bull's Paris studio. Bringing together the three heads behind Sacred Lodge and the duo UVB76, the project crosses haunted chants, surgical production and dusk atmospheres. At the core they find the Fang warriors (Central Africa) and their stories. All around, sounds ironed through modular patches and effects pedals. At the end, a music that draws on industrial music, dub and post-punk.
"Fans of Senyawa will find plenty to admire in Nze Nze. While the former thrust Indonesian folklore into a fearsome, post-industrial setting, the French three-piece take the warrior songs of the Fang, a Bantu people based in Central Africa, weld them to thunderous beats and drown them in echo." The Quietus, October 2022

ZEMENT (krautrock/psychedelic rock/experimental - DE) - Crazysane Records
With their revolving rhythms, swirling synths and rough textures, Zement seek to build the experience of a music manufactory that incorporates elements of krautrock, psychedelic rock, noise rock and EDM.
The eclectic mix of influences and quality songwriting places the duo in the league of established experimental rock acts like Maserati, Trans Am and Föllakzoid. Through combining the wonders of the autobahn with intelligent nods to techno and free jazz, their current output is an excellent continuation of the band's already impressive resumé.
Continuous touring in the last couple of years also brought them the reputation as an excellent live band. They shared a stage with national and international bands such as Föllakzoid, Lucrecia Dalt, Elder or Russian Circles and also played tons of solo shows.
Zements music is an endless meditation on the architecture of mind and the movement of bodies.
"A hybrid of Autobahn-inspired early electronic from the school of Kraftwerk and the hypnotic repetition from Krautrock pioneers Neu! Similar to contemporary groups like Föllakzoid and Trans Am, Zement take those inspirations and add in their own ingredients to propel the genre forward. "Rohstoff", their third full-lenght, has some exciting psychedelic undertones stirred into the cauldron." SlyVinyl

MALTASH (industrial/experimental - BE)
The meeting of prolific Lebanese-born singer-guitarist Joseph Jadam and French drummer Kenny Devineau, Maltash, "person on the fringe/idiot of the village" in Arabic, is one of the bands behind a new musical movement called post-tarab, a style where metal, doom or industrial music experiment with the rich tradition of Middle Eastern song, from Sufi poetry to the Muslim call to prayer, Levantine and Byzantine Orthodox festive traditions, not forgetting the great figures of the first half of the 20th century (Halim Hafez, Oum Kalthoum, etc.). A dark lyricism blending heavy, introspective guitars with power drums, all with a touch of humor.
"By simultaneously citing and deconstructing Arabic wedding music to drone metal, Maltash draws a distinction between musical populism and noise's isolationist imaginings, conjuring heavy vibes that fuse emotionality with culturally situated critique." The Wire, January 2023, issue 467
