Opinion est le pseudonyme sous lequel Hugo Carmouze a choisi de publier ses albums solos à l’âge de 13 ans, le chapitre banal d’un fan de garage rock né de la génération internet quoi… Eh bien pas vraiment, car le jeune Occitan n’a jamais cessé de produire un nombre impressionnant d’albums depuis, à l’image de son grand maître Ty Segall. Enregistrés dans sa chambre et avec un matériel rudimentaire, les albums d’Opinion ont rapidement trouvé un écho dans la scène française et le label Flippin’ Freaks, mêlant sérieux, hyperactivité, et grande créativité. Hugo multiplie les collaborations (Wet DyeDream, Stoner Bud’s) ainsi que les projets parallèles (Teeth, 1Ep Par Jour Records, Nothing is Mine Records, et un nombre incalculable de disques sous divers pseudonymes).
A l’aube de ses 18 ans, le musicien s’installe à Bordeaux et sort son déjà septième album sous le nom d’Opinion. « Molly » (2020), double disque monumental qui explore les thèmes de la solitude et de la passion amoureuse. L’album reçoit un accueil critique très enthousiaste. Si l’énergie et la fulgurance inspirée de la scène garage californienne constituent toujours une base importante de sa musique, Opinion déploie dans un panel d’influences très varié une sensibilité émotionnelle qui rappelle celle de Kurt Cobain ou d’Elliott Smith. Accompagné depuis 2020 par quelques rejetons du label bordelais Flippin’ Freaks, Opinion a rapidement su faire de la scène un terrain de jeu aussi passionnant que le studio. Les performances sont intenses, oscillant entre urgence noisy et fragilité déconcertante.
Après de nombreux concerts et une petite pelletée d’albums et EP lâchés sur internet, Opinion annonce un très attendu nouvel album en physique pour le 23 février 2024 répondant au doux nom d’‘Horrible’, aux influences slacker et shoegaze américain. L’album sortira sur Flippin’ Freaks Records, Les Disques du Paradis et Nothing Is Mine Records.

Well, not quite, as the young Occitan has never stopped producing an impressive number of albums, recalling his great master Ty Segall. Despite being recorded in his room with rudimentary equipment, Opinion's albums quickly found resonance in the French scene and the Flippin’ Freaks label, combining seriousness, hyperactivity, and great creativity. In nearly a decade, Opinion's music has undergone multiple transformations, always driven by Carmouze's creative madness, capable of producing triple albums, folk songs, selective collaborations, and side projects in harsh noise or black metal.
At the dawn of his 18th year, the musician settled in Bordeaux and released his seventh album under the name Opinion. "Molly" (2020), a monumental double album that explores themes of solitude and passionate love. The album received a very enthusiastic critical reception. While the energy and inspiration from the Californian garage scene continue to be a significant foundation of his music, Opinion unfolds in a diverse range of influences, showcasing an emotional sensitivity reminiscent of Kurt Cobain or Elliott Smith. Accompanied since 2020 by some offspring of the Bordeaux scene, Opinion quickly turned the stage into a playground as exciting as the studio. Performances are intense, oscillating between noisy urgency and disconcerting fragility.
After numerous concerts and a handful of albums and EPs released online, Opinion announces 2 highly anticipated new physical albums for 2024.
-“Horrible”, recorded on the night of December 31st to January 1st, 2023, is an album influenced by American slacker and shoegaze. Released on February 23rd, 2024 on Flippin’ Freaks Records, Les Disques du Paradis, and Nothing Is Mine Records.
-And “Troisième Opinion”, his twelfth album recorded between 2020 and 2024, will be released on December 6, 2024 on Howlin’ Banana Records, Flippin’ Freaks Records, Les Disques du Paradis, and Nothing Is Mine Records.
